North Korea launches test flight for planned 2023 spy satellite


North Korea plans to launch a spy satellite into orbit by April 2023, in accordance with the nation’s state media.

State media outlet Korean Central Information Company (KCNA) introduced the plans on Monday (Dec. 19) following what it referred to as an “vital, closing phase” check launch of a rocket in an effort to confirm floor programs, sensors and telemetry. The nation’s solely English-language information outlet, The Pyongyang Instances, reports (opens in new tab) that North Korea’s space company will now “end the preparations for the primary army reconnaissance satellite by April 2023.”
